Slow installations on machines without Internet access

Post by Peter » 19 Jan 2011, 14:54

This FAQ applies to:
  • Clavister InControl™.
Question:
When i try to install InControl on my server that does not have any Internet access, it takes ages for it to complete the installation. What is the reason for this and can i do something about it?

Answer:

The problem is caused by the CLR's certification revocation list verification for digital signed assemblies. CLR is taking a long time in verifying the digital signature of the service executable. If the machine doesn't have internet connection. Otherwise, it will timeout only after 60 seconds (per file to verify).

This feature of Windows can be turned off in the following way:
  • 1. Start Internet explorer and click -> Tools -> Internet Options
    2. Click the ADVANCED TAB, then scroll down to Security:
    3. UNCHECK the boxes that say "CHECK FOR PUBLISHERS CERTIFICATE REVOCATION" and "CHECK FOR SERVERS CERTIFICATE REVOCATION (may require
    restart)"
This will stop Windows from trying to verify if a certificated driver certificate has expired or not.
