IPv6 VPN with L2TP/IPSec

Post by Gigajoule » 14 Mar 2019, 16:30

Hello,

we currently have a working IPv4 VPN with l2TP/IPSec which is bundled with RADIUS authentication internally. Some of our clients have native IPv6 which when they try to access the Gateway doesn't work since it is currently only in IPv4. We have setup IPv6 on our E80, But we cannot setup our L2TP/IPsec VPN with IPv6 somehow. Is there a way to tunnel incoming IPv6 requests to IPv4 or is there a way to create a VPN with IPv6 alike to our current setup with the e80 or does clavister lack this common enterprise feature? How do other customers utilize VPN with IPv6 using clavister products?

Best Regards,
Ali

Hello.

L2TP, PPTP and SSL-VPN does not support IPv6. If you want to use roaming tunnels with IPv6 you have to use IPsec, i recommend IKEv2.

IPsec is vastly superior to L2TP, PPTP and SSL-VPN when it comes to performance and encryption. IKEv2 can be a bit tricky to setup but once you have it up and running it is quite straight forward. So basically a bit longer initial setup.

Things are moving more and more towards IKEv2, PPTP for instance has already been removed in Apple products, it's quite old and it's encryption strength is quite weak.
