Aggregate wan connections

Post by irel » 22 Mar 2018, 17:32

Hello to all,
I have an E80 model with two Internet connections.
The connections are of type PPoE.
I have not published any internal service to the Internet.
Nobody needs to access the LAN remotely.
Is it possible to aggregate the two connections so that client browsing is faster?
Thanks in advance
Paolo

Hello.

There are two ways to achieve this.

1. Use Route Load Balancing to balance outgoing traffic between two internet connections.

For more details see section 4.4. in e.g. version 12.00.08 of the admin guide.

2. Use Policy Based Routing to split the load between the two internet interfaces. An example would be that you use HTTP & HTTPS on ISP1 and then DNS, FTP, IPSec and VOIP on ISP2.

PBR can be quite tricky to setup, luckily this is one of the more easier scenarios involving PBR. More information about PBR can be found in section 4.3. of the Admin guide.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, it depends on your requirements and which solution you think would suit you best.

Best regards
/Peter

Hi Peter and thank you for your reply.
Fortunately, the customer scenario is simple. This is a hotel that provides WI-FI to guests but is not reached by good connectivity.
To give a better service to the guests I thought of activating a second internet connection and aggregating the channels to give a better service.
I will try with the load balancing which seems to me the easiest solution.
Thanks again for the help.

Best regards

Paolo
